Please don't say she was just a dog, She was part of our family and loved as much as one of our
children.
During the 80's and early 90's Rottweiler,s were all over the papers for attacking people, So when
my partner decided to get a dog after we had been burgled for a second time, I agreed on one
condition 'No Rottweiler's' as I had a 3yr old daughter.
About a month later my partner called to me to pick the cat up, I did and in he walked with Cherry
all 9st of her, She was a big girl she was 2, apparently her old owners wanted her put to sleep for
chewing, So my partner rescued her.
Well, now the cat scratched me to get down and walked straight over to Cherry, Well let you tell you
my heart was in my mouth My cat Minstrel was my baby. Minstrel being the maternal cat she was rubbed
up against Cherry's legs and this giant bent down and cleaned her ears, This was the start of a very
long friendship that lasted most of Cherry's life.
I was a different story lol, I had to work on her big time, If she was in my partners car I wasn't
getting in lol, She go into attack mode on me.
I spent time walking her and feeding her but it still took me about 6 months before she'd let me
near.
But my Daughter Chantelle was taken straight under Cherry's paw even sharing midnight ice cream
snacking, Both using the same spoon lol.
Chantelle often speaks about Cherry and when her sister was born in 2004, in 2007 Chantelle brought
us a new rottie pup, She wanted her lil sis to have the love of a Rottie like her and her siblings
had.
About a year later, I was pregnant and so was Cherry we used to walk through the park to drop my
daughter at school, We both had to stop half way lol, and sit on the bench a while.
Well, now she went on to have 10 gorgeous pups they all lived she was spayed after this lol, And
thankfully I went on to have just the one, my son Hayden.
From the offset Cherry was very protective over Hayden, She'd sleep under he's cot all night.
She would watch everyone with him she loved him.
Over the years I had another daughter and Cherry was the same with her.
Some funny memories of our girl I have.
This lump used to get dressed up and go trick n treating with the kids lol, She'd walk proudly round
the streets with her flashing horns and cape, Well they are known as the devil dogs lol.
She also had a problem if a toy squeaked it had to die, She'd desqueak it in seconds and waited
patiently for the kids toy boxes to be left unguarded and would steal her next squeaking victim.
Another funny memory of her is
Our Cat Minstrel had Kittens she was staying at my mums and got pregnant (she was a flat cat before
this), Well Minstrel had 8 kittens and to keep her out the kids reach we put her up stairs with her
kittens, On arriving back from shopping I was greeted with Minstrel crying her eyes out and Cherry
just laying there 3 feet in front of me. I went up stairs and all the kittens were gone, It clicked
then I lifted Cherry's massive belly up and all 8 kittens were there all safe and snug, Yep she
stole them and carried them 1 by 1 down the stairs gently as rottiies have a 315lb bite pressue.
Years full of happy memories with cherry went by and in 1996 Cherry got Arthritis, She was very
stiff in the mornings, But pills and cod liver oil in her food helped her be more comfortable.
We did put her on a diet but that didn't work, She ate the hall carpet, She looked at me all
innocent till she puked it all up in front of me lol. A few months later when Minstrel was 13 years
old a boy racer hit her on the hill where we lived and she died in my arms, Cherry sat for nearly
two weeks sitting on my sons bed looking for her out of the window, It really was a sorry sight.
In 1997 a second cat called Shadow was going to return this favour, Shadow arrived as a lost young
cat, We put posters up but no one came by this time I fell in love with him. Well, now Shadow is an
alley cat and decided Cats rule and dogs drool lol and would whack Cherry at every chance he got
lol, Cherry would just take it lol till one day I walked into the hall and Cherry had him pinned
down with her paw and was cleaning him big time, Shadow that day was put in he's place lol.
In december 1998, Don't ask my why but she didn't look well, it was her eyes they just didn't shine
anymore.
I took her to the vets and he kept her in for a few days, When I went to get her he said it was old
age.
Days later my girl wouldn't eat, I tried fried liver her fav but no, I know it sounds funny but at
this point I knew my girl was dying. I had her all these years and she never ate dog food and liver
was her favourite.
Two days later Cherry collapsed, She couldn't move her back legs and hind, I knew then, We carried
her into the living room and laid her on my kings size quilt, That night I whispered to her that
she's been a good girl and that I loved her and it was ok for her to go.
The next morning we took our girl back to the vet and that's when she told me Cherry had liver
cancer, And that's why the scans had shown up nothing, In that moment our heart broke, It took 3
people to carry her and place her on the vets table, At this moment I believe Cherry was saying
goodbye as she turned to me and licked my face and then to my partner and did the same, In all the
years we had her she had never licked our face.
My partner couldn't watch her die and walked away this is the only time I'd ever seen him cry. I
didn't want to watch her neither but I couldn't leave her to die on her own, I cuddled my girl
crying my eyes out, Her beautiful face right next to mine, her head resting lovenly on my shoulder,
The vet gave her the injection that would end her suffering but her vein collapsed and it send her
into a deep sleep, For that moment I wanted them to leave her snoring away, But I knew I had to let
her go. On the second injection Cherry went heavy on my shoulder and I knew my girl was gone.
It was 3 days before christmas, The vet gave us her collar and said she would be cremated with the
other pets who had sadly died, I said no way.
The next morning day cambridge pet crematorium collected my girl for a private cremation, I was in
tears when I asked them if she would be home for xmas, my girl loved christmas. They promised she
would be.
On christmas eve a personal bike courier delivered my girl back to us and her ashes now sits in my
living room till I die, then She will be placed with me.
Shadow sat in the garden for 15 days waiting for he's girl to come home.
Cherry you gave us so many years of happiness, Your were like our extra child, We love and miss you
so much and I apologise for judging your breed, You taught me that your breeds beautiful and I in
2007 Chantelle brough our first Rottie puppy Odie (she has a Tail), Sometimes her nature reminds us
so much of you.
We love you Chel, Watch other Aysha for me xxxxx
Cherry was a lovable giant, Not a bad bone in her, Apparently this all changed when we left the
house lol, Then she became a guard dog neighbours told me lol.
Cherry loved all children around where lived, When she died all the children who knew her were heart
broken she had grown up with most of them, They clubbed together and had a wreath made especially
for her, It was cremated with her.
She had a thing for babies lol, You had to watch her with any baby not because she would ever hurt
them, She would guard them and then have the cheek to growl at the poor babies parents lol.
She had a love for all other dogs and especially Cats, They never showed that love back lol, She was
always getting attacked by them when she was out on her walks, She never showed any anger to them
though.
Another hit with Cherry was she loved night fishing, Yes me being female did like night fishing and
so did my girl, One snag she had to get into the sleeping bag too lol and she was a spagetti legs
lol and snored lol.
THE CREATION OF THE ROTTWEILER
Once upon a time, long, long ago, before Mankind and Dogdom learned to love one another, the Grand
Canine Council of Eight, which governed the fate of all dogs, called an important meeting. It had
been decided that the governing of dogs would be more easily accomplished if each dog was designated
by the name of his choice, and each breed could then select a prototype to portray breed
characteristics. This action was deemed necessary because Mankind and Dogdom were to soon unite,
hopefully to the benefit of each.
On the appointed day, the representatives gathered and one by one, in an orderly fashion, each made
his selection from a series of catalogs depicting body parts available.
As the day wore on, it became clear that there was not enough material on hand to satisfy all breed
requirements. Shortages were beginning to develop, especially in the ear and tail categories. A few
of the breed representatives began to show signs of anxiety. A Greyhound crowded near a large dog at
the front of the line. "Please, friend Rottweiler," whined the Greyhound, "Let me take your place in
line. If I stay at the end of the line there won't be any long tails left, and without long tails to
act as rudders, Greyhounds will run crookedly."
"Well, okay," said the Rottweiler, and he moved back a step for the grateful Greyhound.
The line began inching forward again. "Pardon me, sir," rumbled a deep voice at the Rottweiler's
shoulder. "Would you mind if I went ahead of you?"
"Well," said the Rottweiler, "I really don't think..."
"You see," the deep voice went on, "We St. Bernards must have great size to perform our rescue work
in the snow. It's extremely difficult for small dogs to rescue people. Just think of all those lost
children."
"Oh, all right," sighed the Rottweiler, and again he moved back in line.
And so it went...a little prototype dog for whom a long body was essential so he could wriggle into
badger holes edged in; a terrier type needed agility and speed to catch rats; another needed a dense
coat to be comfortable while guarding sheep in winter; a tiny prototype needed a silky coat to
please those upon whose lap she sat.
Finally, all that remained was the tired canine that had patiently yielded his place to the others.
Sadly, he looked through the catalogues. Most of the items had black lines drawn through them....
all of the good stock was gone. The Rottweiler sighed deeply.
"HURRY UP!" yapped the Eighth Fate, without looking up.
"Well," said the Rottweiler, very alert now that his turn had finally come. "I guess a big deep
chest won't look bad with small ears that stand up sharply."
"Sorry," said the Eighth Fate. "All out of stand up ears."
"NO STAND UP EARS!" Howled the Rottweiler.
"That's what I said. We can give you rosettes, long or medium-short, but they all drop."
"I'll take the medium-short," said the Rottweiler with disappointment. They won't be too noticeable
with a nice bright color combination."
"NO BRIGHT COLORS," yipped the Second Fate. "Only black."
"BLACK?" Snarled the Rottweiler.
"Wait, wait," whimpered the Fourth Fate, in an attempt to placate. Here are a few tan markings you
can scatter on the face and legs."
"I have three white hairs here," said the Fifth Fate. "Not enough for everyone, but occasionally you
can sprinkle two or three on a chest."
"It's not really what we had in mind," said the Rottweiler. Then he brightened, "However a big plume
of a tail will make up for everything."
"SORRY," barked the Sixth Fate. "NO TAILS."
"WHAT?" Roared the Rottweiler, "You expect me to report back to my breed chairman in BLACK with a
few tan markings, DROP EARS and NO TAIL?"
"Sorry," said the others. "You should have gotten here sooner."
"One moment," the Chief Fate interceded. "This prototype was one of the first to arrive."
"I can't help that," said the Eighth Fate crankily (he was getting very tired.)
"Besides," added the Third Fate, "All of the catalogues are closed. There are no more supplies to be
had."
"I realize that," answered the Chief Fate, "But we can do what all good dogs should do...give
something of ourselves."
From each of us, Rottweiler, you will receive one gift to bestow upon your breed: COURAGE,
GENTLENESS, INTELLIGENCE, STRENGTH, LOYALTY, PLACIDITY, HANDSOMENESS and VIGILANCE. However, the
greatest attribute of any breed you already possess in abundance...A GENEROUS HEART."

We can't know why the lily has so brief a time to bloom
in the warmth of sunlight's kiss upon its face.
Before it folds its fragrance in
and bids the world good-night to rest its beauty in a gentler place.
But we can know that nothing that is ever loved is ever really lost,
and no one who has ever really touched a heart can really pass away
because some beauty lingers on in each memory of which they've
been a part.

DO DOGS GO TO HEAVEN?
(Opus 4)
My little bully passed away, no more to breathe a sound.
I held him for the last time, then entombed him in the ground.
Day and night I wept so much, in tears I thought I'd drown.
I searched my soul for comfort, but no peace therein was found.
In great despair, I hit my knees and then began to pray.
"Father will I ever see, my dog again someday?"
I raised my eyes and saw an angel standing near a gate.
I sensed an inner peace I'd never felt before that day.
The angel smiled and said to me, "Oh man of little faith!
God sees every bird that falls; He knows your bully's fate.
I have met your little dog, I saw him pass my way.
Your precious dog is still alive; he just walked through this gate.
Paradise is lovelier than you can comprehend.
No pain or grief, no tears or fears, and life will have no end.
God gave to man His only Son, to cover all his sins.
So why would God withhold from you, your pure and loving friend?”
The angel took me by the hand and said, "Now come with me.
A glimpse of paradise I'll give, to you so you can see."
Through the gate and o'er the Rainbow Bridge we did proceed.
Through green valleys filled with flowers, rolling hills and trees.
“Wow, so this is paradise!” The place was filled with joy.
I saw my bully playing there, with dogs and cats and toys.
He also had some doggie treats, and food that he enjoyed.
He'd made a lot of new friends there, including girls and boys.
Then I saw a child come near, and hug my little mate.
She said to him, "I love you so," and kissed him on the face.
The angel said, "The child just crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.
Now she needs a little friend, to love and help her play.
God’s love for her would be enough, in that make no mistake.
But in His love, He knew full well, the child would want a mate.
This is why God called your dog unto this splendid place.
God’s entrusted her with him, ‘til you pass through the gate."
I pleaded, “May I hug them both?!” The angel answered, “No!
You’d violate a sacred site, and now it’s time to go.”
He led me back across the Bridge and through the gate to home.
He left me there with new-found hope and peace within my soul.
If someone ever asks what happens to a dog that dies,
Just give a gentle smile of joy and look them in the eye.
Take their hand and comfort them and tell them not to cry.
For dogs don’t die, they simply cross a bridge to paradise.
